“I’m 37 years old and now, I’m in a homeless shelter getting everything back together. I knew a little bit about the shelter, but I didn’t realize it was so, so helpful. They help you here. I like going to the parenting classes, dad’s classes, mental health classes -I always learn something new in each class. They teach us how to parent and how to live. This knowledge is important. It’s given me a place to reconnect with my son, which is all I’ve been doing since I got here. I want others to know that we aren’t bad people out here. We are trying to get our lives back together, to get it to be as normal as it can be.”

Thank you to everyone who made Chocolate and Tea at Three 2017 a success!
More than 200 guests joined us November 5th at Maceli’s Banquet Hall & Catering for the 17th annual Chocolate and Tea at Three, raising more than $100,000 for the Lawrence Community Shelter (LCS). A former guest of the LCS family program, Alta Dodson (depicted in the header photo), shared how her and her children’s lives improved because of LCS programming. She shared, “The shelter is the best thing that could’ve happened to us. It helped us out as a family. This place has changed me. As long as my kids are happy and healthy, I am happy.”
The afternoon would not have been possible without the support of our generous sponsors, donors, and sweet treat makers.
